THE FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL^®

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC^®) is an international, non-profit organization that unites individuals, governments, NGOs, and businesses like Collins under a common goal: protecting healthy, resilient forests. Their policies unify their stakeholders around the common guidelines for forestry that are environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable.

Certification Criteria

The FSC^® pioneered forest certification and their standards for earning certification remain the most rigorous and respected among certifications. Managers of certified forests are required to:

• Comply with all applicable laws;
• Maintain or improve the social and economic well-being of workers;
• Uphold the rights of Indigenous Peoples;
• Maintain or improve the social and economic well-being of local communities;
• Manage their products and services in a way that maintains or improves their long-term economic viability, social benefits, and environmental benefits;
• Maintain, conserve, and/or restore the ecosystem services and environmental values of managed forests; and also avoid, repair, or mitigate negative environmental impacts;
• Establish a management plan that outlines their economic, environmental, and social policies and objectives;
• Demonstrate progress toward meeting these objectives;
• Maintain or improve high conservation values; and
• Ensure all management activities comply with FSC^® principles and criteria.

The FSC^® logo on lumber and consumer goods is a guarantee that the wood you’re purchasing comes from forestlands that are managed in a manner that is environmentally and socially responsible. It’s the mark that distinguishes between clever enviro-friendly advertising that takes advantage of consumers’ desire to make responsible purchasing decisions, and a solid commitment to management practices that protect and enhance the diverse ecosystems of our forestland.

Our FSC^®-certified hardwood and softwood lumber, hardwood veneer and veneer logs, and particleboard are known as CollinsWood^®. CollinsWood^® is available internationally and is gaining wide recognition as architects, designers, builders, manufacturers, and craftsmen choose to protect the environment by specifying and using certified forest products.
